Why is yawning contagious?

In the previous part, you have learned the characteristics of science which seem to be abstract and complicated. However, if you observe the world around you carefully, you will find that science is everywhere in your daily life. For example have you ever yawned because somebody else yawned? Do you want to know why it happens? Watch a video clip to see how scientists explain some hypotheses although they still don't fully understand why it happens.

Discovering science in daily life

Just as there is science in contagious yawning, there is science in a cup of coffee. If you are a coffee drinker, here is a question for you: Have you ever wondered why, when you spill a drop of coffee on your table, there is always a ring of dark stuff at the outer edge after it dries? Mysterious but interesting, isn't it? Read the following text, and scientists will tell you how it works.
