Lesson 14 Do you speak English?
I had an amusing experience /ɪkˈspɪə.ri.əns/last year. After I had left a small village/ˈvɪl.ɪdʒ/in the south of France/frɑːns/, I drove on to the next town. On the way, a young man waved to me. I stopped and he asked me for a lift. As soon as he had got into the car, I said good morning to him in French and he replied in the same language. Apart from a few words, I do not know any French at all. Neither of us spoke during the journey. I had nearly reached the town, when the young man suddenly said, very slowly, ' Do you speak English？' As I soon learnt, he was English himself!
/ə/是单元音前元音，这个音标在英式音标中的符号是/ə/，美式英标符号[ə]。

发音方法
现在来看看我们应该如何正确的发出/ə/这个音。
1）嘴微微张开，嘴唇放松，舌身平放。
2）舌中部伸向硬颚，不要与之接触。
3）口部肌肉和舌头放松，震动声带，气流向外发出/ə/音。
注意：/ə/是中央、不圆唇、非重读元音。

/ɜː/是单元音中元音,是个长元音，旧版英式音标符号[əː],美式英语对应的音标符号[ɝ]。
发音方法
现在来看看我们应该如何正确的发出/ɜː/这个音。
1）半张开嘴巴，双唇略扁平，向嘴角两边略拉开。
2）舌身平放，舌中部伸向硬颚，但不要接触到硬颚，舌部肌肉紧张。
3）震动声带，发出/ɜː/音。
注意：/ɜː/个长元音，这个音听起来和汉语的"饿"相似，要注意的是在美国英语中该音后常常加上一个r的音，类似北京方言的儿发音。
