1.1 Janaka said:Master, how is wisdom to be achieved, detachment acqu ired, liberation attained?

1.2 Ashtavakra said:
My child, to be free, shun the poison of the sensual pleasure. Seek the nectar of truth, of love and forgiveness, si mplicity and happiness.
阿什塔夫说:想得到自由,要避免像毒药般的感官享受。将你的注意力转向宽恕、忠诚、仁慈、简单与真理。
1.3 You are not earth, water, fire or air. Nor are you em pty space. Liberation is to know yourself as Awareness alone, t he witness of these. 1.3
你不是土、水、火或者空气。你也不是空无。解脱是知道你自己仅仅是觉知--所有这一切的见证者。
1.4 Abide in Awareness with no illusion of person. You wi ll be instantly free and at peace.
安住于觉知中,没有人的幻相。你将立即感到自由和平静。
1.5 No castes or duties bind you. You are invisible,unatt ached, formless. You are the Witness of all things. Be happy.
你不属于任何阶级,也没有责任和义务。你是不可见的,无为和无形的。你是万事万物的见证者。如此快乐着。
1.6 Right and wrong, pleasure and pain, exist in mind onl y. They are not your concern. You neither do nor enjoy. You are free.
正确和错误,快乐和痛苦,只存在于头脑中。它们与你无关。你不是作为者,也不是结果的享用者。你是自由的。
1.7 You are the one witness of everything and are always completely free. But if you see yourself as separate, then you are bound.

1.8 "I do this. I do that." The big black snake of selfis hness has bitten you! "I do nothing." So drink this nectar of f aith, and be happy!

1.9 Know you are one, pure Awareness. With the fire of th is conviction, burn down the forest of ignorance. Free yourself from sorrow, and be happy.

1.10 Be happy! For you are joy, unbounded joy. You are Awa reness itself. Just as a coil of rope is mistaken for a snake, so you are mistaken for the world.
你是不受束缚的觉知--喜乐,无上的喜乐,在其中宇宙显现,如同绳子显现出蛇的幻相。如此快乐着。
1.11 If you think you are free, you are free. If you think you are bound, You are bound. For the saying is true: You are what you think.
这种说法是真实的:“你就是你所认为的。”如果你认为你是受束缚的,你就是受束缚的。如果你认为你是自由的,你就是自由的。
1.12 Your real nature is the one perfect, free, and action less Awareness, the all - pervading witness - unattached to any thing, desireless and at peace. It is from illusion that you se em to be involved in Samara. 1.12
你的真正本质是完美、自在和无所为的「觉知」,无所不在的「见证者」-不执着于任何事,无欲且安祥。由于幻觉你才坠入生死轮回中。
1.13 Meditate on this: "I am Awareness alone - Unity itsel f." Give up the idea that you are separate, a person, that ther e is within and without.

1.14 My child, because you think you are the body, for a l ong time you have been bound. Know you are pure Awareness. With this wisdom as your sword cut through your chains. And be happy!

1.15 You are now and forever free, luminous,transparent, s till. The practice of meditation to still the mind keeps one in bondage.
你当下是自由的,也永恒是自由、已自我了悟、明晰和平静的。对冥想的实践反而使人保持束缚。
1.16 Your nature is pure Awareness. You exist in all thing s, and all things exist in you. Don't be small - minded.
你是纯粹的意识--宇宙的本体。宇宙存在于你里面。不要心胸狭窄。
1.17 You are unconditioned, changeless, formless. You are immovable, unfathomable, cool. Desire only your own Awareness.
你是无条件的,不变的,无形的。你是纯粹的、深不可测的、冷静的。你无欲望。你是意识。
1.18 That which has form is not real. Only the formless is permanent. Once you know the truth of this teaching, you will not be born again.
那拥有形式的不真实。只有无形的是永恒的。一旦知道这点,你将不会回到幻相中。
1.19 For God is infinite, within the body and without. Lik e a mirror, and the image is inside and outside a mirror.
如同镜子既存在于其所反映的印象之中,又存在于其所反映的印象之外,无上大我既存在于身体之中,又存在于身体之外。
1.20 Just as the same space exists both within and without a jar, so the timeless, all - pervasive God exists in the tota lity of things.

Janaka said:

2.1 Once I have lived bewildered, in illusion. But now I am awake, flawless and serene, beyond the world.
(恢复了我的真我身份,我即真我)我现在一尘不染,住于平静的觉知中,超越了意识。一直以来,我都被幻相所欺骗。
2.2 As I alone give light to this body, so I do to the wo rld. I am Everything or Nothing
正如我独自照亮了这身体,我也如此照亮了这世界。我是一切,或一无所有。
2.3 So now that I have abandoned the body and everything else, by good fortune my true Self becomes apparent.
我已经抛弃了身体和其它所有,经由恩典,我的「真我」显现出来。
2.4 Waves, foam, and bubbles is only water. So all creati on, emanating from the Self is only the Self.
正如波浪、泡沫和水泡与水没有分别,宇宙也是如此,它出自真我,与真我没有分别。
2.5 Look closely at cloth, you see only threads. So all c reation, when you look closely, is only the Self.
细看一块布,你只能看到丝线;细看天地万物,你只能看到真我。
2.6 Like the sugar in the juice of the sugarcane, I am the sweetness in everything I have made.
如同甜味弥漫于甘蔗汁中,真我是遍透于万物中的本质。
2.7 From ignorance of the Self, the world appears, and by knowledge of the Self it appears no longer. From ignorance of the rope it appears to be a snake, and by knowledge of it the s nake vanishes.
由于对「真我」的无知,就有尘世的显现。认识「真我」以后,尘世不见了。因为无知,把绳子看成了蛇。知道绳子后,蛇就不见了。
2.8 My nature is light, nothing but light. When the world shines forth, it is only me that is shining forth.
发光是我的基本特性,除此无它。当世界向外发光,那只是我在向外发光。
2.9 The mirage of the world appears in me as silver appea rs in mother - of - pearl, as a snake appears in a rope, as wat er appears on a desert horizon.
宇宙的幻景在我里面出现,如同银色出现在珍珠之母--贝壳中一样,又如同绳子看起来像一条蛇,也如同沙漠中出现的水的幻影。
2.10 As a pot returns to clay, a wave to water, a braceletto gold, so will the universe return to Me.
就像陶罐会碎成泥土,波浪会平息在水中,手镯可熔化为黄金,所以这个宇宙也会回归于「我」。
2.11 I adore myself. How wonderful I am! I can never die. The whole world may perish, from Brahma to a blade of grass, bu t I am still here.
我崇拜自己!我是多么奇妙,我会永远不死,这世界上自梵天下至地上的一片草都会毁灭,但是我还是存在着。
