ROOT for Mac is installed successfully by referring to https://thismodernphysics.wordpress.com/2014/01/16/installing-root-on-mac-10-9/
The detailed steps are:
Installing ROOT(latest version is5.34.14) on Mac 10.9 using cmake.
Firstly install required for ROOT to install.
$ brew install gfortran # Fortran compiler
$ brew install python # Python interpreter
$ brew install pcre # Regular Expressions library
$ brew install fftw # Fast Fourier Transforms
$ brew install cmake # Cross-platform make
That’s everything required for ROOT to install, now to download and compile.
Installing ROOT
There are two ways we can proceed,
Download the ROOT code and compile it ourselves.
Let homebrew do the heavy lifting.
Each way has (dis)advantages. The following section walks though the first option, and then introduce by the homebrew.
From source code
Just start from configure, when you finish untar source code on
Desktop/root, then
$ export INSTALL_DIR=/usr/local/root
$ mkdir $INSTALL_DIR
$ cd $INSTALL_DIR
Next, configure ROOT withcmake.
$ cmake ~/Desktop/root -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=$INSTALL_DIR -Droofit=ON -Dcocoa=ON
In here, we’ve enabled RooFit and the Cocoa bindings for native OS X interaces(No XQuartz!!)
Finally compile,
$ make -j 4
$ make install
And then check everything works,
$ root -l
root [0] TBrowser l;
Homebrew
To install with Homebrew we need to add the science formula repository.
$ brew tap homebrew/science
# then, simply install ROOT, enableing the Cocoa interface,
$ brew install --with-cocoa root
ROOT is now fully compatible with Marverick from version 5.34/13.
