I have learned the English for almost 13 years since third grade in the primary school. And in the university, my major is English. Thus on this topic, I have much experience to talk about.

On the factors that influence the effect of language learning, there are four factors that I think must be mentioned:

1. Environment

2. Motivation

3. Personality

4. Learning strategies

What is the important one? I think it varies from age to age. It depends on one’s age. If one man are in childhood, maybe 1-6 years old, I think it’s easy for him to learn a new language. At the same time, there is an important premise that he lives in the environments where the language that he wants to learn is native. That’s best situation.

And the environment is always one important factor for language learning. Some people hold the idea that environment is not necessary when learning a new language. In fact, it’s right. The environment is not the one determines the effect of language learning. However, take an example of one man who are learning English, if the man lives in English country, he have more chances to use his English to read, listen, speak and write than others who don’t live there.

If one man miss the period of childhood, it becomes more and more difficult as his age grows. Then it depends on more his motivation and personality. Motivation means how much he desires to learn a foreign language. In fact, it says why you learn a new language will determine your learning effect. If you desire to learn that extremely, you must learn it fast. If not, it will be slow. Personality means if you like to learn a new language. It’s like people can judge that from your height if you have the genius to play basketball. However, the personality is not the vital factor. Without even the genius to learn a new language, one man can offset that by his diligence.

The learning strategy is the No.2 priority next to the motivation in an adult’s process of learning a new language. To lager extent, how the learning strategy is determines how fast one learns a new language. Usually speaking, one man had better find a excellent English teacher when learning a new language. That is better than reading books or learning online courses. The teacher can teach students by himself and provides him with the immediate feedback. That will reduce many obstacles on the road to the success.

Thus, in my view, if one man want to master a new language as soon as possible, he had better find a excellent teacher to teacher him.
