Today is Thursday.
The soldiers said,"Any soup need some salt and pepper." The children ran to fetch some. "If there were some carrots, the soup would be much better." A lady ran off and came back with an apron of carrots. Then the soldiers said like that, stirred the soup and implied that the good stone soup should have cabbages, a bit of beef and a few potatoes, a little barley and a cup of milk. At last, the soup was ready. "All of you shall taste," said the soldiers,"but a table must be set first. " The villagers carried a long table and many chairs. How good the soup smelled. The villagers said to themselves,"Wouldn't the soup require bread and toast and cider? " Soon a banquet was spread and everyone sat to eat. They enjoyed the soup and the other food. They were so happy that they started to sing and dance. At last they felt tired and they invited the soldiers to sleep in the best houses of the village, one in the priest's, one in the baker's and one in the mayor's. The next morning all the villagers gathered at the square to gave a send-off to the soldiers. "Thank you for teaching so much," they said. The soldiers said,"We shall never feel hungry because we have known how to make stone soup."
