Man: My name's Turner. I'm looking for my friend. Her nam is Kay.
Manager: Is Kay her first name or her surname?
Man: It's her surname. He full name is Jean Kay.
Manager: Miss Kar or Mrs Kay?
Man: Mrs Kay. She's staying at your hotel. Room 26.
Manager: Good. I'll call Mrs Kay for you.
Receptionist: Mrs Kay isn't in he room. sir.
Manager: Perhaps she's in the par.
Man: I don't think so. She never goes into pars.
Manager: Is she waiting for you?

Man: She's quite tall and she's got dark hair. And I think she's carrying a big handbag.

Man: A hat? I don't think so. She doesn't like hats?
Manager: Ah! Is she wearing green skirt and an orange blouse?
Man: I don't know. Perhaps she is. Perhaps she is wearing a green skirk and an orange blouse.
Manager: Is that Mrs Kay over there? Is that her?
Man: Oh, yes, that' her.

男子：我不知道，也许是。她也许穿着绿色裙子和桔红衬衣。
经理：那边那位是凯太太吗？是她吗？
男子：啊，是的，就是她。
注1. 描述人的方法有多种，可借助下列各项来说：
(1) 外表：a tall man; a thin man
(2) 衣着：the man in the brown suit; She's wearing a groon skirt.
(3) 所拿东西：the man with a parcel; She's carrying a big handbag.
(4) 地点：in the par; in his room; at your hotel; over there
注2. 动词 look 和介词 for 在一起，构成一个固定的词组 look for，意：寻找。这样的词组叫做短语动词。又如：wait for （等待）；listen to （听）；look ta （看）。
注3. name 是笼统的姓名或名字，确切地说，surname 姓，first name 名；full name 姓名。如：Full: Francis Matthews; first name: Francis; surname: Matthews.
注4. I think so. 表示同意对方的见解，I don't think so. 表示不同意对方的见解。如：
A：She's in the par. B：I don't think so.
A：Is she in the room? B：I think so.
注5. 询问某人的外貌，如特征、相貌、衣着、身材等，说 What does look like? 他长得什么样？ 他是什么样的？回答时要具体回答。如：He's taal and thin. 或 He's wearing a brown suit. 或 He's got long hair.
注6. 欧洲人因为头发和眼睛的颜色有较明显的区别，常以此来区别人。他们常用 have got 这个句型来说。如：She's got fair hair.（她的头发是金黄色的。）He's got blue eyes. （他是蓝眼睛。）
2. What does she look like?
在博物馆，一男人在寻找他走散了的女朋友，他向博物馆工作人员弗朗西斯打听：
Man: Can you help me, please? I'm looking for my girlfriend.
Francis: What does she look like?
Man: She's got long fair hair, and she's wearing a short skirt.
Francis: Is she tall?
Man: Quite tall. She's about one metre seventy centimetres.
Francis: That's about five foot sevne.
Man: And she's about twenty five years old.
Francis: Is that your girlfriend? Over there?
Man: No, it isn't. My girlfriend Jean's got long hair. Jean's hair is longer than that, and she's taller. That girl looks older than Jean. Jean looks younger.
男子：请帮我个忙。我在找我的女朋友。

注7. 英国人长度用 foot （英尺）计算，复数为 feet。1 foot = 12 inches = 30.48 centimetres
注8. 说某人身高五呎七吋，可说： He's five foot seven. 也可以说：He's five feet seven inches.
注9. 形容词的比较等级在第四课（注7）中已见过，一般单音节形容词，均用加词尾 -er 构成比较级，加 -est 构成最高级。如：near, nearer, nearest; short, shorter, shortest; old, older, oldest; thin, thinner, thinnest（注意双写n）。有少数不无则变化，如：good （好的）, better （较好的）, best （最好的）
注10. 比较级后面跟 than … 引出相对比的对象，有时在上下文中对比对象已很清楚，than … 也可以省去。如：Jean's skirt is shorter than that. Jean's got longer hair. （吉恩的裙子比那人的短。吉恩的头发更长一些。）
