1. That was our holiday in Spain.

  ( In a club, Mr and Mrs Sellers are going to give a talk — with slide — about their holiday last year in Spain. They're got as many as 534 pictures. )
 Mr Sellers: This is my dear wife at the check-in counter. She's — um — checking in. This is the security control at the airport. They're checking hand luggage. Here the man is checking my dear wife's passport. And here is my dear wife in the departure lounge. This is my wife going through the duty-free at the airport. And this is you-konw-who going through the departure gate … And here is my dear wife at passport control. This is where we found our suitcase again. This is the red channel ( something to declare ) but here is my dear wife going into the green channel ( nothing to declare ). And that ladies and gentlemen, was our holiday in Spain.

  注1. 乘飞机旅行，常用下列专用术语：
  (1) booking desk （订票柜台，或叫 booking office 订票处）
  (2) departures board （离港班机情况表）通常，这是设置在航空港大厅内的大型电动告示牌。
  (3) arrivals board （入港班机情况表）
  (4) check-in counter （报到登机柜台）办理交验机票、交运行李及安排座位的柜台，旅客办这些手续叫 to check-in 。
  (5) security control （安全控制）为保障飞机安全检查旅客随身是否带有危险品的关卡。
  (6) departures lounge （候机室）
  (7) duty-free shop （免税商店）现代国际航空港设有免税商店，所售商品因免税而较其国内便宜，一般用国际通用外汇交易。
 (8) departure gate （登机口）
 (9) passport control （护照检验处）
 (10) red ( green ) channel 【红（绿）色通道】英国和某些国家设有红色通道和绿色通道，凡无物申报者，走绿色通道；凡带有需报关的物品时，应走红色通道。
 (11) goods to declare （货物申报）
 (12) nothing to declare （无可申报）
 (13) hand luggage ( hand baggage ) （手提行李）
 (14) registered luggage ( baggage ) （交运行李）
 (15) baggage check （行李牌）
  注2. slide 是幻灯片；picture 是图片、画片或照片；photo 是 photograph 是缩略形式，照片。
  注3. check 是检验、核对，作名词用时，可以指凭证、号牌、行李牌和支票。check in 专用于旅行，它含有“核对报到”的意思，乘飞机旅行，先订了票，乘机时持票去办理乘机手续叫 check in. 订了旅馆房间，到旅馆去办理住宿手续，也叫 check in. 同样，离开旅馆结账退房走人，叫 check out.
  注4. as many as … 是“象……一样多的，多达……的”的意思，用于不可数的量时用 as much as。如：
 I hope you'll enjoyyour stay in London as much as we did. （我希望你们将在伦敦过得愉快，和我们以前一样。）
  注5. 介绍图片，说：“这一张是……”可说： Here is … 或 This is …，如说“这是（谁在干什么事）” 则说：This is … (doing) … 。如：
 This is my dear wife going into the green channel.

2. There are four flights a day.

 ( Mrs Clark, the chairwoman at the club, comes to the travel agent's to book her holiday.)
 Travel Agent: There are four flights a day from Gatwieck to Madrid. The flight takes one and half hours, and the return far is £120.
 Mrs Clark: So I leave from Gatwick airport and go to Madrid, then cake a connecting flight.
 Travel Agent: That's right, madam. There are four connecting flights every day.
 Mrs Clark: Good. Thank you very much.
 Travel Agent: I hope you enjoy your holiday, madam.
 Mrs Clark: Thank you.
 ( Mr and Mrs Selers comes book their holiday. They're going to Palma in Majorca, Spain, too. So, Mrs Clark will go by boat to France instead.)
 Travel Agent: Well, there are boats to France every hour, madam, from Dover and Folkestone. It only takes an hour and a half to get to Boulogne or Calais. I'll give you a list of the departure and arrival times and tell you about fares. Then we can make your reservation.

  注6. 询问两地的班机可以用这样的说法：
 How many flights are there from … to …?
 There are flights from London to France every hour.
 There are four flights a day.
 There's only one flight a week.
  注7. take 可以表示“需要”、“花费”时间的意思，如：
 How long dose it take to get there?
 It takes time to do that.（做那事要花工夫。）
 The flight takes two and a half hours.
  注8. fare 是指车、船、飞机的费用，return fare 是往返票价，single fare 是单程票价。
  注9. to connect 意思是“联接”。a connecting flight 是相联边的两个航班，是两个班机联运的意思。
  注10. hope 表示希望或祝愿：如：
 I hope you enjoy your stay in Beijing.（祝你在北京过得愉快。）
 I hope you get well soon.（祝你尽快康复。）
 I hope I can see you again.（希望再见到你。）
  注11. instead 是副词，意思是“代替”，如：
 He is tired. Let me go instead.（他累了，让我去吧。）
 Mrs Clark didn't want to have a holiday in Spain with the Sellers, so when to France instead.（克拉克夫人不想和赛拉斯夫妇一起在西班牙度假，所以她改去法国了。）
  注12. 乘船旅行用语有：
 (1) crossing 横渡，指短途旅行。
 (2) voyage 航程、航行，指长距离航海。
 (3) ferry 摆渡，从英国渡过英吉利海峡到法国的旅行，称为 ferry。
 (4) cabin 舱，指单间船舱。
 (5) berth 铺位。
 (6) to sail 航行。
  注13. to make a reservation 意思是“订票”，“订位”，可指预订旅馆房间，剧院座位，车、机、船票等。

    There are three flights every week from Beijing to the United States, but only one flight to New York. It ieaves on Wednesday at ten ten in the morning and arrives at seven fifty in the evening. It takes twenty-two hours and forty minutes to get there.
