真诚道心，或曰清新之心，是如何产生的？需要遵循什么体系、方法吗？所谓方法，就是修炼体系，日复一日，不断地重复。那么，修炼方法能修成清新心灵吗？显然，所谓方法，意味着沿着特定路径，朝向特定目标，持续地修炼。但这只能养成机械性习惯，通过机械僵硬的习惯，如何能获得自由活泼的心灵呢？
你说到“修炼”，所有修炼都遵循某种方法，恪守固定模式。某些有着笃定信仰和坚定立场的人，预先设计了修炼模式，并向你承诺必成正果。那么，无论最广义或最狭义的方法，真能让你的心灵焕然一新吗？如果不能，就必须将方法与惯式彻底舍弃，因为那是错误的。方法，只能按照预期的结果，来约束你的心灵。你必须抛弃内心所有的刻板方法，抛弃所有僵硬的思维方式。所以，如果你认为方法、体系、苦修、惯式能让你的心灵焕然一新，那是虚幻不实的。一切机械僵硬的东西，都需彻底舍弃，因为机械僵硬之心，沉迷于传统，不能面对鲜活的生活。故，应舍一切法。

Discard All Methods
How is the religious mind or the new mind to come into being? Will you have a system, a method? Through a method—a method being a system, a practice, a repetitive thing day after day? Will a method produce a new mind? … Surely, a method implies a continuity of a practice, directed along a certain line towards a certain result—which is to acquire a mechanical habit, and through that mechanical habit to realize a mind that is not mechanical….
When you say, “discipline,” all discipline is based on a method according to a certain pattern; and the pattern promises you a result that is predetermined by a mind that has already a belief, which has already taken a position. So, will a method, in the widest or the narrowest sense of that word, bring about this new mind? If it does not, then method as habit must go completely because it is false…. Method only conditions the mind according to the result that is desired. You have to discard all the mechanical processes of the mind…. The mind must discard all the mechanical processes of thought. So, the idea that a method, a system, a discipline, a continuity of habit will bring about this mind is not true. So, all that is to be discarded totally as being mechanical. A mind that is mechanical is a traditional mind; it cannot meet life, which is nonmechanical; so, the method is to be put aside.
