之前，知新共学翻译群里有译友说，希望我们能讲一讲关于公文翻译的方法。正好我们翻译团队里的小伙伴Linda（CATTI一级通过）长期在外事办工作，之前也服务过我们的政府客户，积累了丰富的公文翻译经验。
今天这篇分享就来自Linda。我们争取做成一个系列，从选词到组句，分享一些公文翻译时的方法与思路。希望对大家有帮助。
今天先聊聊政府公文中经常出现的一个高频词的翻译：“实践”。
该系列往期推文
“支撑”一词在政府公文中也很常见，一般都做名词，比如“战略支撑”、“重要支撑”，或做定语修饰另一个名词，比如“支撑作用”、“支撑能力”。
但是在翻译的时候，是不是都只能翻译成名词support呢？今天这篇文章简单罗列一些“支撑”在政府公文中的花式译法。
最简单的、最常见的是在“战略支撑”、“重要支撑”这样的词中，可以直接保留“支撑”的名词性，处理为support, pillar, underpinning (for doing sth./of sth.)，修饰词“战略”、“重要”等词继续做定语，放前面修饰“支撑”，比如：
创新是引领发展的第一动力，是建设现代化经济体系的战略支撑。
Innovation is the primary driving force behind development; it is the strategic underpinning for building a modernized economy.
加强应用基础研究，拓展实施国家重大科技项目，突出关键共性技术、前沿引领技术、现代工程技术、颠覆性技术创新，为建设科技强国、质量强国、航天强国、网络强国、交通强国、数字中国、智慧社会提供有力支撑。
We will strengthen basic research in applied sciences, launch major national science and technology projects, and prioritize innovation in key generic technologies, cutting-edge frontier technologies, modern engineering technologies, and disruptive technologies. These efforts will provide powerful support for building China’s strength in science and technology, product quality, aerospace, cyberspace, and transportation; and for building a digital China and a smart society.
战略布局离不开实际举措支撑。
Strategic layout will get nowhere without support of concrete measures.
英国议会成立跨党派“一带一路”和中巴经济走廊小组，推动为“一带一路”合作提供政策支撑和法律保障。
The all-party parliamentary group on the BRI Initiative and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is looking into
policy support and legal guarantees.
中国航空工业虽然起步较晚，但发展势头迅猛，已成长为中国经济结构转型的
重要支撑。
The Chinese aviation industry, though a late starter, has grown rapidly to become
an important pillar of China's economic restructuring.
上述“支撑”，其中部分，比如“战略支撑”，也可以翻译成adv.+adj.的形式，比如：
坚持党对人民军队的绝对领导。建设一支听党指挥、能打胜仗、作风优良的人民军队，是实现“两个一百年”奋斗目标、实现中华民族伟大复兴的战略支撑。
Upholding absolute Party leadership over the people’s armed forces Building people’s forces that obey the Party’s command, can fight and win, and maintain excellent conduct is strategically important to achieving the two centenary goals1 and national rejuvenation.
还有“支撑能力”这个词，侧重的其实是一种“能力”，可以理解为能够做某事。“支撑能力不断提升”，则可以理解为“越来越能够支撑某事物”，从而将“支撑”处理成一个具体的动作，比如：
基础设施支撑能力持续提升。
Infrastructure became ever-better able to sustain development.
在将“支撑”翻译成动词时，还有另一种常见情况，即将“支撑”转化为“利用”，常见于“以……为支撑”这样的句型，意为“依靠……”、“利用……”，因此可以翻译为 tap 这样的词，比如：
要坚持以改革开放为动力、以人力人才资源为支撑，加快创新发展，培育壮大新动能、改造提升传统动能，提高全要素生产率，推动经济保持中高速增长、产业迈向中高端水平。
We must continue to draw strength from reform and opening up, fully tap the potential of human resources and human capital, and move more quickly to pursue innovation-driven development. We should foster and develop new growth drivers while transforming and upgrading the traditional growth drivers, and increase total factor productivity. These steps will enable China’s economy to maintain a medium-high rate of growth and China’s industries to move toward the medium-high end.
“支撑”一词在政府公文中也经常做定语修饰另一个名词，比如“具有支撑作用的……”，意思是“重要的”。英语中也常见名词作定语，修饰另一个名词，此处也可以用这样的结构，pillar+n.，比如：
二是要加快完善对哲学社会科学具有支撑作用的学科，如哲学、历史学、经济学、政治学、法学、社会学、民族学、新闻学、人口学、宗教学、心理学等，打造具有中国特色和普遍意义的学科体系。
Second, we should further improve
pillar subjects, including philosophy, history, economics, political science, science of law, sociology, ethnology, journalism, demography, study of religions, and psychology, establishing a primary disciplinary system with Chinese features and international significance.
