1. I'm all those things.

 (A young assistant is serving a customer in a shoe shop. She's telling her that she'd like to change her job.)
 Assistant: Yes, I'd like to be a nurse.
 Woman: A nurse? I'm a nurse - sometimes.
 Assistant: Are you? They're quite nice.
 Woman: Have you got a brown pair?
 Assistant: Yes, I think so. Or I'd like to work in an office.
 Woman: As a secretary?
 Assistant: Yes.
 Woman: I'm a secretary, too - sometimes.
 Assistant: I'd like to be a teacher. They have nice long holidays.
 Woman: I'm a kind of teather - sometimes. But I don't get long holidays.
 Assistant: Ah, here we are. Here's a brown pair. Or do you think it's good to work in a restaurant? A waitress! Yes, I think I'd like to be a waitress.
 Woman: I'll have these. I'm a waitress myself - sometimes. A hind of nurse, and secretary, and teacher, and cook, and waitress and cleaning woman. I'm all those things.
 Assistant: All thoes jobs at the same time? Where do you work?
 Woman: At home - as a wife adn mother.
 Assistant: Oh, I see.
 Woman: But there's one little problem. You don't get paid.

 店员：我愿意当教师，教师的假期挺长的。
 妇女：我有时也算是个教员，可我得不到长的假期。
 店员：啊，你瞧。这是一双棕色的。或者，你说去餐厅工作好不好。当服务员！对了，我想我愿意当个服务员。
 妇女：我买这一双。我自己也是一个服务员——有时是。当护士、秘书、教员、厨师、服务员 和清洁工，这些事我全干。
 店员：同时干所有这些工作？你在哪儿工作啊？
 妇女：在家——作为一个妻子和母亲。
 店员：喔，是这样。
 妇女：可有一个小问题，没有人给工资。

 注1.谈论职业的基本说法如下：
 (1) 做什么工作：
  What's your job?（你做什么工作？）
  What's your occupation?（你是什么职业？）
  What do you do?（你干什么？）
  I am a electrical engineer.（我是电气工程师。）
 (2) 为谁工作：
  Who do you work for?（你为谁工作？）
  I work for …（人或单位名）
 (3) 在哪儿工作：
  Where do you wrok?（人在哪儿工作？）
  I work in an office.（我在一办公室工作。）
  I aowk at …（单位名）
 (4) 工作情形如何：
  What's it like?
  What's the job like?（工作怎么样？）
  It's hard (easy).（工作繁忙、艰难/工作轻松、容易）
  It's very paid.（工作报酬不错。）
  The money is very good.（工资很高。）
  How much do you earn?（你挣 多少钱？）
  I earn a hundred pounds a week.（我每周挣 一百英镑。）
  What are the hours like?（工作时间怎么样？）
  I work eight hours a day.（我一天工作八小时。）
 注2. I'd like (chieken). 表示想要什么东西；
   I'd like to (play chess). 表示想干什么事情；
   I'd like to be (a nurse). 表示想做什么样的工作，想当什么样的人。又如：
   I'd like to be a computer programmer. （我相当一个电子计算机的程序编制员。）
 注3. They're quite nice. 这里 they 是指鞋，因是一双，两只，用复数 they 。如：I'll have these. pair 的意思是双、对，一双鞋叫 a pair of shoes. a brown pair 是一双棕色的鞋。
 注4. kind 作名词，意思是种类。a kind of … 意思是一种……、一类……。
 What kind of shoes did the wonman want?
 She wanted a brown pair of shoes.
 注5. nice long holiday 中的 nice 含有“好”和“很”的意思。意味这假期很长，而说话者认为是好事。
 注6. I'm all those things. 这里 things 指前面讲的那些职业。意思是所有这些工作我都干。thing 这个诩用得很广，可以指事、指物、指问题以及指人等等。

2. What do you do in your free time?

 (Another customer is tolking to a male shop assistant.)
 Customer: A you interested in football?
 Assistant: Well, yes.
 Customer: I am. Wonderful game, football.
 Assistant: Yes. Now, what shoes can I show you, sir?
 Customer: I like all sports and games.
 Assistant: Oh, yes.
 Customer: Yes. Football, cricket, swimming. Can you swim?
 Assistant: I'm not a good swimmer, But I go swimming sometimes.
 Customer: Tennis. That's a good game.
 Assistant: Yes.
 Customer: I'm interested in tennis. I never miss Wimbledon, you know. I see it every year.
 Assistant: Oh?
 Customer: And what about running? The oldest sport in the world. Wonderful. One man trying to run faster than other men. Do you run?
 Assistant: No. I just play table-tennis, and swim, and I walk quite a lot. Now, what kind of shoes do you want, sir?
 Customer: You don't play golf, then?
 Assistant: No.
 Customer: I really like golf. Mind you, I like all sports. Games as well.
 Assistant: You're a real sportsman, sir. Perhaps you want some tennis shoes or running shose?
 Customer: Er — no.
 Assistant: Football boots!
 Customer: No. I want some carpet slippers — like those.
 Assistant: Carpet slipers?
 Customer: Yes. I want to comfortable when I'm watching television. Do you watch television?

 （另一位顾客正在和男售货员谈话。）
 顾客：你对足球感兴趣吗？
 售货员：啊，感兴趣。
 顾客：我感兴趣。足球是非常好的比赛。
 售货员：是的。好吧，先生，你要看什么样的鞋？

 顾客：赛跑怎么样？世界上最古老的运动。好极了。人人要努力超过别人。你跑步吗？
 售货员：不。我只打乒乓球和游泳，我还常散步。嗳，先生，你要什么样的鞋呢？
 顾客：你不打高尔夫球吗？
 售货员：不。
 顾客：我可真喜欢高尔夫球。告诉你，我喜欢一切运动，也喜欢比赛。
 售货员：先生，你是一个真正的运动员，也许你要网球鞋或者跑鞋？
 顾客：呃——不。
 售货员：足球鞋？
 顾客：不。我要室内穿的拖鞋——就象那些。
 售货员：室内穿的拖鞋？
 顾客：对。我想看电视时能舒服些。你看电视吗？

 注7. free 自由的，空闲的。 free time 指业余时间。问 What do you do in your free time? 问的是人们的业余爱好。

1. 电视节目中和录音带中有一段职业介绍 所官员与一男人的谈话。官员问他的爱好（hobbies），请问：
   (1) Is he interested in the theatre?
   (2) What does he do in his free time?
   Official: Now, we should like to konw something about your hobbies. What do you do in your free time? Are you interested in the theatre?
   man: No, not really.
   Official: What are you interested in.
   man: Well, football, playing squash, hockey.
2. 还有一段谈话，是一个 electrical engineer 想换工作，去当 computer programmer，他谈了三点理由，是下列哪三点：
   (1) There's a future in it.
   (2) It has long holiday.
   (3) It's easy.
   (4) It's an interesting job.
   (5) He'll get a lot of free time.
   (6) He'll carn a lot of money.
   Official: So, you were there for four years. Where do you work now?
   man: In Canterbury. I'm an electrical engineer, but I'd like to be a computer programmer.
   Official: That's interesting. Why?
   man: I don't know. There's a future in it. I think it's an interesting job, and the money's very good.
3. 把两句话改成一句，划线的动词改成 -ing 的形式：
   例：题：I to music. I enjoy it.

    I used to as a cleck in a bank, but now I'm an assistant in a sports shop. It's a very big shop and I'm very busy, but it's interesting. We sell sports equipment for all kinds of sports. I work 8 hours a day, 6 day a week. Wednesday is half day, of course. It's not very well paid — I get about £ 75 a week — but we get 3 weeks paid holiday every year, and public holiday, of course.

2. 语法

 (1) go swimming，go shopping 等中的 -ing 是分词，在句中作状语，修饰 go 说明目的。
 (2) I like swimming. I enjoy reading. 这里的 -ing 是动名词，在句中作宾语，
