I traced an avatar's story in the dust,
A map of trembling fingerprints,
But wind arrived with pilgrim feet,
To scatter the eclipse.
I told my love,
I told him all my heart,
As spiders weave their silver psalms,
As moths name their candle's glow.
Ah! He did depart!
Silently and invisibly,
As shadows drink our silences,
As roots drink rain that leaves no mark.
See how the swallows stitch their vows,
Through twilight's fraying seams,
Their silent arcs more true than oaths,
Writ in baptismal streams.
Soon after he was gone from me,
A traveller came by,
She took him with a sign,
In dew-strung looms of dawn.
The heart's full moon hangs wordless,
A lantern in the dark,
So trembles every vowel unsaid,
There blooms the rose we never planted.
Christy Comments:
I write this poem to emphasize the ineffable nature of love, and also to express the feeling that we can never seek to tell the paradox of love. Love can never be told invisibly and silently, for words unravel what the soul has spun, and mature love resides beyond language altogether.
Still, I hope everybody never alienate the rights and the courage to pursue TRUE love, despite love's material impermanence.
