In 2023, the maritime sector generated 9.91 trillion dollars in China, up by 6% from a year earlier and 0.8 percentage points higher than GDP growth over the same period. Thanks to its rapid recovery and growth in both quality and quantity, the sector has emerged as a new source of economic growth. At the same time, ocean issues are global issues and marine conservation is a concern for people in all nations. Since 2012, China has presented 800-odd relevant proposals to international organizations and played an active role in international rule-making on environmental protection and resource conservation, thereby contributing its wisdom and strength to the resolution of challenges faced by the global marine environment.
