Megan Freeman (黑发绿衣女性) host of Money Talk

Beth Harris (黄发红衣女性) a manufacturing consultant at SmartSource.

Adam Tusk(黑发黑西服男性) CEO of Aztec Motors and an AI skeptic

对话开始

Megan: Good evening and welcome to Money Talks, I'm your host, Megan Freeman. Tonight's topic is : The rise of the machines. With AI and automatic technology becoming more efficient and affordable, should manufacturers start to prioritize AI over human staff? Join me tonight is Beth Harris, a manufacturing consultant at SmartSource, and Adam Tusk, the CEO of Aztec Motors and an AI skeptic.

【选择】-What will they discuss on tonight's show?  -the role of AI in manufacturing

【跟读】AI is becoming more efficient and affordable.

【跟读】He is an artificial intelligence skeptic.

Megan:  So, what role should artificial intelligence play in the 21st century factories? Beth, let's start with you.

Beth: Honestly, as large role as possible, Megan. AI has already been adopted in factories around the world to do human jobs. And it has transformed manufacturing for the better. Take assembly line robots for example, factories with these robots have reported improved accuracy, timing, and workflow, which reduce costs and increase productivity. Tell me, how is this a bad thing?

【选择】-How does she think robots have changed manufacturing?  -They've had a positive impact.

Adam: Well, Beth. While I agree that AI has had positive impacts on manufacturing, there is more to this issue than just improving efficiency. If we have technology that is advancing so rapidly that it's putting people out of work, then I would say, it's a problem. I mean, look at this country right now, productivity and innovation have never been better, and yet at the same time, we have a falling medium income and fewer jobs.

【选择】-From his point of view, what is the problem with AI?    -It is destroying jobs.

【填空】 If we have technology that is advancing so rapidly that it's putting people out of work, then I would say it's a problem.

【跟读】It is advancing so quickly that it's putting people out of work.

Beth: With all to respect, Adam. I think you misinterpreted this trends. Manufacturing jobs are being replaced by AI because people don't want to do them. The current generation of factory workers is getting older and young people just aren't interested in repetitive manufactory work.

【选择】-From her point of view, why are manufacturing jobs being replaced by AI?   -People don't want to do them.

【填空】【跟读】Manufacturing jobs are being replaced by AI because people don't want to do them.

Adam: Well, there are other ways of dealing with a labor shortage than automation. Aztec's factories had faced employment shortage before, and we chose to raise salaries to bring qualified people to fill the positions.

Megan: But Adam, as this technology becomes more afforadable, should manufacturers not take advantage of it?

Adam: I'm not saying I'm antitechnology.

【选择】-By raising its salaries during a labor shortage, Aztec ... -was able to bring in qualified employees.

Adam: There are many ways in which automation should be used by manufacturers. For example, robots can do more dangerous jobs to make work safer for employees.

Beth: So, it sounds like we're actually on the same page. Adam, at the end of the day, automation is a net positive for business.

Adam: Not quite, we have to consider the jobs it disrupts, not just its relative benefits.

【选择】-From his point of view, what is a good way in which robots can be used in factories? -They can do dangerous jobs.

【跟读】It has some benefits, but manufacturers need to consider its downsides.

Adam: If our technology advances faster than our skills and organizations can keep up, people will fall behind.

Beth: But, this advanced technology also offers opportunity for workers, does it not? As technology eliminates unnecessary and unwanted jobs, the new skills requried to monitoring create new jobs.

【选择】-From his point of view, what will happen if technology continues to advance rapidly?    -People will lose their jobs.

Adam: Right. We can all agree that the industry is changing, but responsible manufacturers should maintain balance, rather than simply embracing extremes.

Megan: Well, that's all the time we have for tonight. Beth and Adam, thank you both so much for being on the show.

Adam: You're welcome, happy to be on.

Beth: Yes, thank you very much, Megan.

【选择】-From his point of view, how can manufacturers be more responsible?   -They can use technology wihle protecting human jobs.

【跟读】responsible manufacturers should balance human jobs with new technology.
